~The Kitten and the Wolf~

River noticed the other mouse run off but was happy she caught one of them, swishing her tail happily as she wandered back over to Bramble with her catch.

Brambletail smiles upon seeing River coming back with the mouse, a canine tooth showing in his grin.

Well done! Tell me, did the mouse even know you were coming?

He asks her, still ready to teach her more.

River dropped the mouse she caught and shook her head at what he asked, looking proud of it.

Brambletail smiles at River's catch before nosing it towards her.

Your catch, your food. Go on and eat it if you're hungry little hunter.

He tells her, sitting back onto his haunches to watch her taste her catch.

River looked surprised for a second since she thought he might want it, she swished her tail happily though and ate the mouse. She really enjoyed the way it tasted and purred as she ate it quickly and licked her lips.

Brambletail smiles and perks his ears up when he hears a light crackle in the distance. A coming storm again. Perfect timing for his decision to train the young kitten into the perfect traveling companion, especially since it was a smaller storm than the last two. He turns to her.

Now before we adventure out into the world, you need to be able to last a single night out here with me. Sniff the a air again young hunter. Tell me what comes to you.

He asks her.

River gave a little mew when she heard the thunder in the distance, having finished her mouse she moved closer to him as she listened to what he said before sniffing the air hesitantly.

R-Rain? I smell rain...

Brambletail nods before getting up and sniffing the air as well. The rain was about a half hour away. Perfect. He turns to River.

We need shelter. Look around for someplace where the both of us can rest and wait out the storm peacefully.

He tells her.

River looked at him a bit confused since she thought they could just go back home. She shook her head some though at that thought since she had to prove herself, she set out right after to go sniff around and find a place that would stay dry.

River actually finds a huge place underneath the gnarled roots of a huge oak tree. It looks to be more than big enough for the both of them.

River tilted her head some and wandered into the are under the roots, sniffing around as she did to make sure it smelled okay.

The tree smells like fresh pine needles and plants. River doesn't smell anything else.

River swished her tail happily and bounced out to go and bring Bramble over.

Brambletail is waiting where he was before, the crackling of the storm sounding closer now than before. He smiles at River before getting up onto four paws and nodding to her.

What did you find little hunter?

He asks her.

River moved a bit closer to Bramble when she heard the storm but swished her tail happily.

I found a hole under the roots of a tree, it looks nice to use.

Brambletail nods.

Lead the way little hunter.

He tells her, waiting for her to lead the way.

River swished her tail as she quickly padded off to go back to the area she found.

Brambletail sniffs around and smiles just as the first drops of rain begin to patter onto the leaves and ground around them. He nudges River underneath the gnarled roots of the tree and follows her inside. Yawning he pads up a makeshift nest out of pine and leaves before settling down and relaxing.

Well chosen little one. Now come relax. This shelter will be more than sufficient for the coming storm.

He praises her.

River purred happily when he praised her, waiting til he settled down before she curled up against his belly fur happily.

Brambletail smiles as thunder and lightning begin to crackle and the rain pours down a bit harder until it's rhythm begins to become soothing to Brambletail, causing him to ignore the loud thunder and the bright flashes of the lightning clawing its way across the sky.

See now? This isn't so bad now is it? Granted we will not always have such a suitable shelter as this. Sometimes we may even have to make do with something just barely enough to keep us only mostly dry until the storm passes. I've even had to sleep out in the rain before too.

He asks her, putting his chin onto his paws.

River listened to him and moved close, shivering some since she hated the thunder going on. Though because he was calm that helped her some, staying quiet as she cuddled before falling asleep some.

River easily manages to sleep through the night curled up with Brambletail, the thunder eventually going dull onto her ears. The next morning, everything outside around them is glittering with the moisture and water from the rain the previous night. Brambletail is still sleeping peacefully next to her as she wakes up.

River stretched a bit as she woke up in the morning, yawning as she moved to get up and look around outside. She looked back at Bramble though after a minute and wondered if her would be hungry when he woke up.

Brambletail is still sleeping peacefully as River gets up, the smell of fresh dew and air strong in the air outside of their makeshift den. River can also smell squirrel's and mice skittering about trying to get food and things before comes again.

River swished her tail some when smelling and hearing mice near by, right after she started to follow the smells and stay down in the proper crouch he had taught her.
