~The Kitten and the Wolf~

This is a continuation of the original story made and written by yours truly. It is a 1x1 RP between Skitten and myself so please read only! Thank you and enjoy reading the RP! ^^


(OOC: We're continuing off of where me and Skitten had left off on our previous site Otaku World. To sum things up, Brambletail is now preparing River for traveling out into the world by teaching her how to hunt and survive on her own properly. His leg is now also mostly healed and the real adventure of the RP shall begin shortly.)

Brambletail moves into the forest and pads around, patiently taking River to a small clearing and sitting down to face her.

First things first, take in the scents on the air around you. Tell me what you smell.

He asks her gently.

River followed him outside and looked around before she stopped beside him. She tilted her head as she sniffed the air some.

There are the plants around, and mice? The dirt in the sun... water too.

Brambletail smirks before raising his own nose into the air and flicking his tail towards a nearby tree.

What about that squirrel inside of the knothole of that tree up there?

He asks her slyly.

River looked around and sniffed, pouting a bit though as her tail twitched.

I can smell it now...

Brambletail nods.

In the wild, you must be observant of everything in your immediate surroundings at all times. It will do more than just help you find food. It can even save your life if you're in trouble sometimes too. It's done so for me many times. Now let's see if we can find that mouse. Smell the air again and tell me where it's at.

He asks her.

River nodded some and looked around as she smelled the air, wandering a bit closer to the trees after a minute

Brambletail watches River closely, quietly padding behind her about a yard away so that he wouldn't disturb her hunting abilities at all.

River sniffed around a bit more and wandered into the bushes quietly, looking around as she did.

Brambletail sees River wander into some bushes quietly and patiently waits outside of the bushes to make sure that he didn't disturb her hunt at all. She was here to learn from him after all, not for him to be a nuisance to her lessons.

River pounced after a minute to try and catch the mouse near by, swishing her tail a bit when she did and walked back over to him.

Brambletail chuckles when he watches the mouse scurry out of the bushes and straight into his little mouse hole. Brambletail turns to River.

Now what went wrong there? Do you know?

He asks her.

River looked at him a bit and shook her head since she wasn't certain why.

Brambletail flicks his tail towards the bush and smiles.

Mice tend to feel your pawsteps before they hear you but your entry into that bush was so noisy that even the most deaf of mice would've heard you. You were also using an improper stalking technique for hunting a mouse so it must've also felt your pawsteps. Watch and copy me.

He tells River before crouching down slowly and beginning to slide his paws along on the forest floor, actually not making a single sound. River can't even feel and vibrations coming from the ground near her paws when he slides his paws near her.

River twitched her ears some as she watched him and tilted her head, wondering how he could be so quiet like that as well.

Brambletail gets back up onto all fours and swishes his tail.

Now you try it.

He tells her.

River nodded a bit and crouched down a bit as she tried to do what he did, stumbling a bit though as she did and pouted.

Brambletail merely swishes his tail as River pouts after faltering her stance.

Try it again, but keep your hind legs apart more as you slide. It'll help you keep your balance better.

He instructs her.

River listened to him before she nodded some and crouched down again as he asked, her tail twitching some as she moved forward again a bit better this time.

Brambletail smiles as River slides along the forest floor much more quietly than she had the last time she had tried it.

Good! Now smell the air one more time and tell me what you smell within about ten feet of us.

He asks her.

River nodded some and sniffed the air some, her ears twitching as she did.

There is a few mice though they might be hiding, and a few squirrels in the trees.

Brambletail smiles and nods.

Why don't you stalk the mice and check to see if they are truly hiding? Practice your stalking technique the whole way to make sure that you don't spook them.

He asks her.

River nodded and looked happy as she crouched down and wandered a bit carefully where she was smelling the mice from, wanting to catch one.

Turns out that there were two mice out of their holes still since River's little mishap with the previous one. They're skittering around and chattering, nibbling on sunflower seeds that they had found. They haven't seemed to have noticed River yet.

River nodded and was happy as she crawled closer, getting ready before she pounced on one to stop it and bite it really quick.

The mouse squeaks loudly in surprise from River pouncing on it before being cut off by River's killing blow. The other mouse squeaks in fear and skitters off into the brush, no longer catchable.
