Dark Ignition

Post by Phirania on 2/4/2011, 6:23 am

My first actually decent fanfic! Hope you guys enjoy! Just give me some reviews and cats! Lots and lots of cats! cat

~ ~ ~
Chapter 1 - Showdown

Xanthos clenched his fists as he stared down his enemy, Hyperion. This monster couldn't be forgiven of the crime he had committed. Ominous wind screeched into the sky and covered the desolate landscape. Xanthos' sky blue eyes wandered to his left hand, which gripped a midnight blue crystal. His gaze then shifted once again to the purple and black furred cat that stood before him. Xanthos' golden fur stood on end as he thought through his plan; Hyperion was no pushover, especially because of the reason that he was the son of Dark Gaia.

Pushing back haunting memories of his past, Xanthos gritted his teeth and roared. Cobalt lightning swirled around his fists and snaked into the air. The crystal then began to flow; it had felt the golden cat's determination to win. The blue energy then began to transition to a blood red as the chaos force filled Xanthos' body. The emerald Xanthos held in his hand was a fake and he knew that, but if he tried to use a true Chaos Emerald, it would surely kill him.

Formulating a plan, Xanthos then clasped his hands together and suddenly three more doppelgangers of the golden cat appeared in a burst of smoke. Determination to avenge his allies filled Xanthos' body and he felt more powerful than ever before. Glad their ninjutsu still worked, the quartet of golden cats dashed toward their eternal enemy, the malevolent entity known as Hyperion.
- - - -

Hyperion lazily whipped his tail into the air, amused at Xanthos' efforts to remain calm. This battle for the yellow cat was futile, and both seemed to know it. Hyperion narrowed his eyes, ready to take revenge for his siblings deaths that Xanthos had brought. Perhaps torturing the yellow cat's allies and friends wasn't the best revenge, but it gave Hyperion the satisfaction of knowing that Xanthos now felt as he did. Hyperion saw Xanthos glance at his hand, but the immortal could not see what his opponent held within.

Hyperion scoffed at his worried thoughts, for it was impossible for Xanthos to defeat him twice in a row. No trick would work on Hyperion multiple times, and Xanthos knew it. The only reason Xanthos had defeated the immortal before was because of the colossal power of the world rings that Xanthos and several of his allies used together. Hyperion made a mental note to track down and kill that crimson hedgehog that was the bearer of the ring; that hedgehog might prove to be a detriment in his plans later.

Hyperion smirked as Xanthos' lightning roared into the sky, but his smirk faded as the lightning flared blood red; he had never seen this power before. Readying his own light-based powers, Hyperion growled as Xanthos seemingly cloned himself. The immortal quickly charged toward the quartet of yellow cats, determined to win. His siblings would be avenged, no matter what the cost.

Second chapter! Let's-a-go!

~ ~ ~
Chapter 2 - Battleground

The two felines clashed, mustering all they could use to defeat the other. Hyperion quickly found himself outmatched by the strength of four Xanthos'. 'It would be wise to 'even the odds' I suppose,' Hyperion mused as he dodged a punch immersed in crimson lightning. 'However, that red energy. . . I should look out for that.' He quickly back-flipped over the small horde of yellow cats, preparing to get a little . . . creative. Hyperion began to bend the light around himself, making it seem as if he was invisible.

"That's. . . new," Xanthos muttered as his antithesis seemed to disappear. Telling his clones to stay on guard, the nina tried to catch Hyperion's scent. If it smelled like a sewage treatment plant, it was probably Hyperion. Confusion racked Xanthos' mind as he failed to smell the opposing cat. Could Hyperion cloak his smell as well? Without warning, several dozen purple cats surrounded the yellow quartet. Upon one of Xanthos' clones attacking, the attacked purple cat smirked and seemed to shimmer out of existence. The other members of the Hyperion militia waved and peppered Xanthos and his trio with light energy.

Hyperion always knew that he was smart. While unseen by the ninja, he made light illusions of himself. The attacks that Xanthos felt were not real, but the yellow cat thought that they were, giving Hyperion a chance to strike from above. Jumping off of a tree branch, Hyperion let loose several laser blasts from his hands to gain more altitude. With a cackle as he saw Turbo, he let laser rain down upon the quartet, hopefully destroying a few of those pesky clones. The purple cat landed onto the ground and dispersed his illusions: they took up too much of his energy.

Xanthos groaned as he tried to clear his head. At the last possible second, the ninja had erected a dome of lightning to keep the several Hyperion clones unable to attack. However, he didn't expect a giant blast of light to crash into his dome, so it had been destroyed almost instantly. His clones disappeared as his concentration was lost, and Xanthos needed a new plan. The dust, dirt and debris slowly fell back to the earth, allowing Xanthos to see the violet cat with a malicious cheshire smile upon his face. The two glared at each other once more, waiting for the other to make a move.

"This battle is futile for you, Xanny," Hyperion chuckled as he saw Xanthos' twitch.

"You have no right to call me that, monster," Xanthos growled. "Go crawl back down to Tartarus!"

The ninja let out a triumphant smile as Hyperion's smirk disappeared; this conversation was over. 'It seems that I'll have to go full throttle,' Xanthos mentally sighed. Taking a deep breath, he took a defensive stance. As he closed his eyes, he focused his mind, syncing himself completely with the False Chaos Emerald in his hand. With each breath he could feel the raw power of Chaos and the power of lightning. Xanthos drew into every reserve of energy he had. His eyes snapped open; it was complete.

The ninja slammed his palms together as if he were praying, and both red and golden energy crackled and swirled around him. As his eyes transitioned from blue to red, Hyperion shuddered as the wind began to wail. The sound seemed more ancient than anything Hyperion knew of, and when you've been around as long as him, one tends to learn a lot of sounds. The ancient gale swept through the desolate battlefield, and only grew in strength. A sound similar to an angelic yet malevolent choir seemed to ride on the wind, and began to grow louder. Hyperion shielded his eyes from the howling winds, and gasped as red lightning flashed around Xanthos. This power. . . was it related to the crimson lightning from before?

With thunder roaring overhead gray clouds, the ninja roared, echoing the thunder. A shiver crept down Hyperion's spine; it was now or never. In his initial fight against Xanthos, Hyperion's siblings had been dispersed into Tartarus, or the deepest part of the Underworld. Hyperion himself had barely managed to escape, and after recovering from an amnesia attack, swore revenge on Xanthos and all those that had helped seal away Hyperion's family. So, Hyperion led the ninja to this location, an area with a large deposit of negative energy. Using this energy, Hyperion would undo the lock that held his family captive, but he had to first destroy any possible problems. Taking care of Xanthos was the first priority; Hyperion could not lose here. The Titan of Light began to levitate, preparing himself for the final clash.

Third chapter!

~ ~ ~
Chapter 3 - Reinforced

Though he had levitated a safe distance away, Hyperion was still stunned by the raw power being witnessed before him. Before his startled eyes, Xanthos had managed to multiply his strength three times over. 'Something tells me that this isn't all he has in store,' Hyperion mused to himself. Letting loose several spears of light from his hands, Hyperion charged forward.

After the first battle a little over half a year ago, the Lord of Light had been unable to achieve his Perfect form. Perhaps he hadn't absorbed enough negative energy, but that did not matter to him right now. He had a feeling that with this battle, he would unlock it.

Xanthos smirked as he watched Hyperion slowly back away. The golden cat had managed to encase his body with lightning laced with Chaos energy. As Hyperion made the first move, the ninja quickly dodged the lasers thrown by his antithesis, and clasped his hands together.

No more messing around; this struggle had to be resolved. With several puffs of smoke, Xanthos performed another Clone jutsu, bringing forth half a dozen more copies. Crimson lightning enveloped their hands, and they surged forward. A kunai materialized into their hands from seemingly nothing, and was thrown quickly afterwards, with Chaos Lightning infused into its structure.

***

"He's around here somewhere. . ." A sky-blue hedgehog murmured to her companions. She stopped for a moment as they came to a split in the tunnel, feeling through the cavern tunnel with her mind. 'There's a very large amount of negative energy here,' she thought to herself, 'What could have happened here to cause that?' Reaching out with her psychic power once again, she motioned for her allies to follow her; she had found Xanthos' aura.

"I hope he's alright." She sighed, remembering how her ninja friend had furiously chased after Hyperion only hours before.

"He's fine, Luna! I know it! He'll beat the stuffing outta that Hyperion creep!" A crimson hedgehog smirked.

"Maybe so, but I'm still worried. Don't you remember what Hyperion did to your father?" Luna replied, fighting back tears of what happened to the blue blur.

"I. . . try not to." Sonic Cody muttered as he stroked his silver hair bang, trying not to remember the blood, the wounds, and the pain that wracked his father's body. If Sonic the hedgehog was defeated so easily, how could anyone else last long enough to stop Hyperion? 'No, I've gotta stop that kinda thinking. Xanthos' dealt with the Titans before, so he has experience. I have faith in him, and nothing will change that,' Sonic Cody thought. 'I mean, we already beat the Titans once, can't we do it again?'

The last member of the group, an emerald hedgehog, stared at the ground. He didn't have anything to add to the conversation, but he shuddered as he recalled Sonic Cody's tear-streaked face, the bloody heap of pink fur that was barely recognizable as Amy Rose, and the events that followed. 'These Titans must be defeated, or destroyed at the very least. I know for certain that we will be the ones to do it,' Genesis concluded, hoping that they could reach Xanthos in time.

The three glanced at each other and, with a unified nod, dashed deeper into the labyrinth, determined to help their feline friend take down the rising evil known as the Titans.

***

A fist encased in concentrated light slammed into Xanthos' midsection, sending the golden cat stumbling backwards. His clones had been destroyed long ago by the frustrated Hyperion. Before Xanthos could recover, another fist crushed his tail, and a third impaled the side of his head.

The world began to spin for the yellow feline, and he wasn't sure how long he could hold out. His face was forcefully grabbed by Hyperion and slammed into the rocks beneath his feet. With his now waning energy, Xanthos wrapped his tail around Hyperion's leg, and flung the violet feline away.

Teeth bared with pain, Xanthos forced himself to stand, and clasped his hands together. With his eyes closed, the ninja cat slowly spread his arms apart, relaxed his body and gathered energy from the crystal in his hand. Crimson lightning swirled around his arm in the shape of a cone. He condensed the energy, and reached out to his surroundings, and pulled out the little energy the decrepit location had. His eyes snapped open, technique finished.

"Erythros Electrensis," Xanthos muttered under his breath, calling out the name of the attack. In his language, it roughly translated to 'Red Lightning Lance'. Spotting Hyperion, he dashed forward and impaled the Titan with the attack. Not wanting to let the chance go to waste, Xanthos swung again, only to be stopped by Hyperion's bare hand. Xanthos' eyes widened; that shouldn't be possible. The purple cat glared at the ninja cat and blasted the ninja cat back with a beam of light. 'That attack blinded me,' Xanthos thought with an angered grunt, 'Well, I'm not a ninja just for show.'

Xanthos took a defensive stance, listening for the footsteps of the Titan, and tried to catch where Hyperion's scent was the strongest. At the last possible second, Xanthos leapt into the air, skillfully dodging Hyperion's barrage of slashes. It was at that moment that Xanthos realized that he had made a mistake; he couldn't dodge in midair., especially if he was blind. Another blast of light engulfed the ninja, and sent him falling to the ground, landing unceremoniously in a yellow heap of fur.

Hyperion was upon the ninja almost instantaneously, throwing several punches powered by concentrated light. 'One more should finish this,' Hyperion cackled in his head. The last punch connected, and Xanthos dissolved in a puff of smoke. As the smoke cleared, Hyperion growled as a dead tree log took the place of what Hyperion previously thought was Xanthos.

"Substitution Jutsu. Never leave home without it," a confident voice chuckled before Hyperion was slammed into a nearby rock. Xanthos landed, his sight restored. 'The substitution jutsu is a ninja basic,' Xanthos thought with a smirk, and Hyperion didn't expect it? 'Somebody is losing their touch.'

'He probably used it when he was hit in the air,' Hyperion realized, frustration nearly at boiling point. 'This cat is going down.' With an enraged snarl, Hyperion leaped to his feet, and viciously lashed out at the ninja cat, his claws glowing with light energy. Xanthos was sent staggering backwards, reeling from the feral attack. He felt the wind getting knocked out of him as Hyperion body-slammed the ninja, who was unable to react in time. Claws extended, Hyperion leaped forward, eager to finish this struggle. Perhaps he was too eager, as a powerful zephyr of wind slammed into the Lord of light, throwing him against a nearby cluster of rubble and debris.

"Who's da hog? I am!" Genesis smirked as he climbed out of the ground floor into the battlefield. "I'll try to hold off Hyperion. You two should go help Xanthos."

"No." Sonic Cody muttered. "My dad must be avenged!" Without further arguement, the crimson hedgehog dashed toward the pile of rubble that Hyperion was crawling out of. The hedgehog's hand glowed for a moment, and a hooked sword took its place in Sonic Cody's hand. With a roar, he dove towards the now standing purple feline.

Luna turned her attention to Xanthos, whose fur was matted and whose voice was ragged. Upon further inspection, one could see traces of blood. Biting her lower lip in worry, she turned away; she was of no use in this situation. Genesis quickly took her place and laid a hand on Xanthos' chest, using his control over wind and light to regulate the cat's breathing and reverse the ninja's wounds. The ninja's eyes opened for a moment, dazed, before he stood up. No words were exchanged; none were needed. A pain filled scream of Sonic Cody snapped the three out of their trance and they quickly came to the aid of their friend.

This one seems to be a favorite of mine as well. Maybe because it was longer than the first two chapters?

Fourth chapter!

~ ~ ~
Chapter 4 - Rescued

Frigid air with the smell of death wove its way through the underground cave, sending chills down the young falcon's spine. Her red hair feathers were now matted and dirty and had lost their vibrant hue, while her clothes were torn in several places, and stained by tears. Her hands were in shackles, her pink eyes showed little life in them.

She chirped softly, hoping she would be saved. Several tears flowed from her eyes, as she glanced to her right. A heap of grey and blue mechanical parts was all that remained of the once functioning robot porcupine known as Omicron. The falcon's breathing became more ragged as the memories returned.

"Xanthos. . .," she murmured as her eyelashes began to grow heavy once more. A small spider scuttled across her, but she could care less. A day ago, she would have screamed and tried to swat it, but now? Now she just wanted to be free.

Musty air and dust stirred slightly in the distance. She slowly raised her head, hope slowly returning. She tried to call out, but her voice was too sore for that. Already exhausted, she struggled against her chains, hoping the person would hear. The footsteps became louder and she let out a blissful smile.

***
-Half an hour ago-

Wrave, the master of dark aerokinesis, the hybrid between a falcon and echidna, and self-proclaimed master of awesome, was lost. He sighed as he wandered through the maze of tunnels and caverns. His white trench-coat dragged across the floor behind him, gathering dirt. He pushed away several strands of crimson hair and blinked. Hadn't he already passed through here?

"Eh, I should have stayed with the others. . .," Wrave groaned, now realizing the idiocy of his idea. His sore legs trudged on, hopeful to find something that would lead him to the exit of this deathtrap. After several minutes, he sighed and leaned against the tunnel walls, focusing. He began to sense the vibrations in the wind, anything that could help.

A minuscule change caught Wrave's attention, and he raced towards the source. The word that he had heard. . . Xanthos. . . what was that? He shook it off; it probably didn't matter. Taking a sharp right turn in a split off, he increased his speed. As he grew closer, he could hear breathing and his worry grew. Reaching the end of a tunnel infested with spiders, he skidded to a stop. He found himself in a concrete room of some sort, lined with candles and scented with gloom.

"Seems like a nice vacation spot," he smirked as he examined his surroundings. The sounds of chains being clanged snapped Wrave out of his thoughts. Stepping slowly and carefully, he approached a wooden door with several spiderwebs lined across it. He raised an eyebrow and slowly opened the door. His head slowly entered the room, followed by his body. He relaxed; there was nothing there but a few boxes.

"I was almost scared there for a sec. . . better get going!" The falchidna grinned as his paranoia faded. He chuckled and prepared to leave the odd place when a soft sob echoed through the room. Paranoia quickly gripped Wrave and wouldn't let him go. 'A ghost?' he thought, becoming quite scared.

"O-over here. . .," a soft voice laced with sorrow and shame whispered from afar. Wrave blinked and slowly followed the source of the sound.

***

"O-over here. . .," the falcon girl rasped, her voice devoid of water. Yet she was filled with sorrow and shame. Nothing ever went right for her. 'Maybe it would be better for me to die here. . .' she thought darkly.

The chamber door rattled several times as the rescuer tried to open it. Several moments of silence passed and without warning, the door was blasted down with a wall of wind. The girl let out several pain-filled coughs as dust swirled around her, blocking her view of her rescuer. Another wave of wind roared through the chamber, tossing about the dust particles with ease.

"And who are you?" Wrave asked with a sneeze.

"I am. . . Pennatus," the girl replied, struggling to speak with her lack of water. Before she realized it, a zephyr of wind slashed through the chains, freeing Pennatus. The girl rubbed her raw wrists for a moment before standing up and adjusting her clothes.

"I'm Wrave but, uh. . . what is that?" Wrave gestured to the heap of dismembered parts.

"Ah! Omicron!" Pennatus cried out as she ran to said pile,"This was -er is- my friend Omicron. He's a cyborg porcupine, you see." The crimson haired girl said as she tried to rearrange the pile of parts into the form of Omicron.

Wrave blinked. 'Another cyborg Mobian? Eh, whatever.' The male knelt next to Pennatus, recognizing several of the parts. Examining the hand piece, Wrave was fascinated by the complexity of it. The two avians sat in silence, placing the body parts back in place.

"The power core. . .," Pennatus muttered.

"Huh?" Wrave asked.

"His power source. . . it's gone."

"It might be in the other room. I'll check." With that, the hybrid strode out the door and into the other room. 'Why am I helping this girl anyway? Does she know how to get out? Guess we'll find out.' Wrave rummaged through the boxes for several moments before fishing out a small blue glowing cube. Averting his eyes from its mesmerizing aura, Wrave sped back into the chamber and handed the girl the cube.

With a confident grin, Pennatus placed the cube on Omicron's chest and the two watched the cube meld with the robotic body. With a metallic groan, the porcupine slowly stood to his feet, his systems now starting up. The cyborg glanced at the two falcons before grunting. His optical sensors and X-ray vision scanned the tunnels beyond and after .019 seconds, he had located the nearest exit.

"Did you find the exit, Omicron?" Pennatus whispered. The cyborg simply nodded. 'Is it incapable of speech?' Wrave thought. 'How weird.' The three ran out of the chamber and back into the labyrinth ahead.

Fifth chapter!

~ ~ ~
Chapter 5 - Evaluation

"So. . . are we there yet?" Wrave asked, boredom drawn on his face as he ran.

"Negative." Omicron muttered, annoyed with the hybrid.

"Alrighty. . . How about now?"

"Negative."

"I bet you're leading us the wrong way!"

"I suggest you keep your mouth inactive until we reach our destination."

"Did. . . did you tell me t-."

"Affirmative."

Pennatus chuckled softly as Wrave began to grumble to himself. The three had been running – or being carried by a porcupine cyborg in Pennatus' case – for several minutes before Wrave began to get restless. 'But I suppose that's what happens when one can control an element,' the falcon concluded,' they become similar to that element.' Lost in her musings, the falcon subconsciously brushed aside a lock of her crimson hair, and yawned.

"So how long were you guys trapped in there for anyway?" Wrave asked his new allies. Pennatus broke out of her stupor and glanced at the hybrid for a moment, thinking.

"I'm not sure," she slowly replied. " I woke up about an hour before you came. . ." Omicron twitched before checking his internal memory banks, searching for the last entry.

"We were held captive for approximately three days," Omicron replied as he ran a check on his internal systems. Everything seemed to be in order. . . until the cyborg scanned his weaponry. They seemed to have been sabotaged and were unusable. The porcupine narrowed its optical sensors before bringing up the problem.

"After running a check on my systems, it came to my attention that all of my weapons are unusable. I believe I know who did this as well." Pennatus exhaled deeply as she recalled the only person they knew that could sabotage Omicron.

"Was it Boost?" The falcon girl asked, hoping to be wrong.

"Either her or the one that is referred to as Dr. Robotnik. The former is more likely."

"Who's Boost?" Wrave asked, not knowing this new name.

"We don't know too much about her, but we do know that she is an android that serves Hyperion and that she has technokinesis. She . . . defeated Omicron when we fought her last." Penny replied. "What bothers me is that we didn't see her when we left that cell."

"Maybe she was on break?" Wrave suggested.

***

'We might actually beat him!' Luna thought, mental glee bubbling within her body. Anyone of the Mobians could hold their own against Hyperion for a short time, and with the four of them banded together like this, Hyperion's downfall seemed imminent. With a flick of her wrists, she utilized her control over ice and shaped the crystalline material into a long, wicked blade.

With a grin, she launched herself past the male Mobians and slammed the flat end of her blade against the Light Lord's head. Not skipping a beat, she lifted her arms skyward and let loose several psionic blasts from the sky, which rained down upon the battlefield. As one, the psionic streams of energy changed their direction, and crushed the Titan's mind.

Staggering backwards, Hyperion was unprepared for the physical and mental assault that had taken place. His bloodshot eyes snapped open, glaring at the Mobians with pure hatred. Then he realized that the Mobians were slowly but surely overpowering the Titan. 'Curse that Eggman.' the Light Lord. 'If he didn't release Dark Gaia prematurely, then I wouldn't have been reborn prematurely and would have my powers increased tenfold.'

He leaped backwards, a razor sharp blast of wind missing him by millimeters. Genesis scowled as his follow-up to Luna's barrage of blows failed. He had been hoping to hit a vital part of Hyperion's body that would paralyze him, but that obviously didn't happen. His conviction still firm, Genesis let out a cry as several arrows of light blossomed around him and launched themselves towards Hyperion. The Titan groaned as his body began to lose its vitality and he slumped to the floor.

"Now to finish him," Sonic Cody said darkly, a tone that did not suit him. His own blade, a gleaming silver, reflected the sunlight as the hedgehog rested his sword over Hyperion's body. In one swift movement, the hedgehog hefted his blade upwards and brought it down upon the Titan. A moment before impact, a zephyr of wind slammed into the blade, knocking it off course and driving it into the dirt next to Hyperion's head.

"That's not what we came here to do." Genesis muttered as he lay a hand on Sonic Cody's shoulder.

"What do you want me do?" the crimson hedgehog replied softly.

"Killing him won't solve this problem." Genesis murmured.

"So you want me to forget this all happened?"

"We aren't saying that, but killing Hyperion won't help the situation! You're father wouldn't wa-" Luna began.

"WHAT DO YOU KNOW?!? MY DAD IS IN A HOSPITAL SOMEWHERE BECAUSE OF THIS MONSTER!!! AND YOU EXPECT ME TO TWIDDLE MY THUMBS WHILE HE'S IN AN EMERGENCY ROOM?!?" Sonic Cody retorted, letting loose his anger, his hatred, everything that he bottled up inside at the sky-blue female, not even registering her slowly watering eyes.

The other Mobians were silent, unsure how they should diminish Sonic Cody's pure and malevolent anger. One of the greatest symbols of Mobius, Sonic the hedgehog, had been taken out by Hyperion, and everyone had been hit hard. With a thoughtful gaze, Xanthos mulled over the situation in his head before voicing his opinion.

"How will killing help you?"

"Huh?" the crimson hedgehog asked, his rage slowly diminishing.

"As a guardian of the World Rings and your own personal pledge to be pure-hearted, did you not swear to never kill? If you go back now, then it would seem that the Rings were wrong in choosing you to wield them. Because of my own training as a ninja, I'm unafraid to kill, but you have no such obligations." As the cat spoke, Cody was silent, not making any body movement.

"Shut up," He finally spoke, "What do you know about me, huh? I don't care about any of that anymore!!!"

"You don't deserve any of the benefits the Rings have given you. You just said you rejected the rings after all this time. In my eyes, you are pathetic." The last sentence was Sonic Cody's snapping point. With a feral roar, he pounced onto the cat, pummeling Xanthos with his inner pain. Every pound, Xanthos felt his wind being forcefully squeezed from his lungs, causing the cat to gasp profusely. But he would take it, so that his friend wouldn't have to shoulder this burden alone anymore.

Luna's eyes widened as every gasp from Xanthos came became hoarse. She automatically began to storm forwards to give the red hedgehog a piece of her mind, but a gloved hand stopped her. Genesis glanced at Luna before returning his hand to his side. After several slugs, the hedgehog stopped, fist halfway in the air, as if some mystical force was keeping it in place. With a ragged sigh, Sonic Cody lowered his hand and a stream of tears slowly fell from his closed eyes.

"Well isn't that just heart-warming?"a sinister voice cackled. The four Mobians glanced behind them and gasped. Hyperion was now standing, one arm limp and dangling.

"Unfortunately, this pow-wow has come to an end." the Titan grinned. "But what raw passion! What raw intent! I almost felt something touch my in my heart. What was that emotion called? Oh yes, I remember now; Disgust."

"You're just sad that your mommy didn't love you!" Luna retorted. Hyperion's smirk faded and he grunted. His eyes closed for a moment before opening again, glee dancing across his face.

"I suppose I might not have been mother's favorite, but allow me to introduce to you who was!" The light lord cackled, his fur on end as energy began to gather in his hands. Luna's eyes widened.

"You couldn't be!" Luna cried out, hoping her hunch was incorrect.

"You bet I am!" Hyperion smirked, his tongue covered in drool and saliva. Luna held back a curse, fearing the worst.

"What's wrong?" Genesis asked, his voice almost drowned out by the now rising winds.

"This goes back to the underground negative energy deposit I mentioned before! He probably wanted to lead you here, Xanthos, so that we would follow!"

"But then why didn't he activate earlier?" Sonic Cody shouted over the screaming winds.

"I'm thinking that he either couldn't or he wanted to evaluate our powers and decide what would be the best way to defeat us!" Luna concluded, letting her words sink in. The other Mobians let out a cry of surprise as they were lifted into the air. Thinking quickly, Luna fashioned a sword of ice and drove it into the ground, prevented her from being pulled into the vacuum of wind. Sonic Cody followed in her example and thrusted his own blade into the ground, holding onto it for dear life.

Spiraling through the wind that centered around Hyperion, Xanthos could feel his heart leap into his throat as he saw Hyperion's claw turn blue. The earth was wrenched free from its prison and also began to free-fly through the air. With a haunting cackle, Hyperion slammed his fist into the ground and reaching for the energies below. A spiderweb of blue glowing cracks spread outwards from Hyperion's claw and illuminated the battlefield.

The light pierced the eyes of all present, much like an obnoxious child pierces one's ears with their nonstop talking. Xanthos groaned as he could see the cobalt light even through closed eyes. Dust and dirt slashed into his wounds, making them twinge and burn. Something sharp impacted the ninja's skull and sent him reeling backwards, head throbbing. Yet, Xanthos could not open his eyes to see what had struck him, as he knew that the light would seem even more intense.

And after what felt like eternity, the wind died down and the light diminished until the ninja cat felt it was safe to open his eyes. Still in midair, he did so, and his eyes widened as he saw the being that now stood by Hyperion's side. 'That's. . . !' His mind was scattered as several thoughts scrambled through his head. Most of them being a resounding ' I'm dead for sure.'

Silver mane flowing in the slowly dying wind, the new character in this game of war smirked. He ran a maroon hand through his silver hair and chuckled. His laughter died down and Luna squinted in the direction of this mysterious entity that was shrouded by dust. She glanced over her shoulder as Xanthos landed feet-first to the ground next to her, his eyes crazed with fear. That was what scared Luna. Very rarely was a ninja open about their emotions, as to prevent weakness but now. . . .

"Allow you to introduce my little brother and leader of the Titans!" Hyperion grinned maniacally as he pointed to the being next to him. " His name is Kronos."

Sixth chapter!

~ ~ ~
Chapter 6 - Fallen

And after what felt like eternity, the wind died down and the light diminished until Xanthos felt it was safe to open his eyes.

Very rarely was a ninja open about their emotions, as to prevent weakness, but now. . . .

"Allow you to introduce my little brother and leader of the Titans!" Hyperion grinned manaically as he pointed to the being next to him. " His name is Kronos."

oOo oOo oOo

"Kronos?" Luna muttered, rolling around the word in her mouth. It sounded ancient, mysterious, deadly. That one word, filled with wonder and power, sent a chiver down her spine as she clutched her sword. Her quills stood on end as the strange sensation crawled through her. She shuddered. She stared into Kronos' aura. It was unreadable to her. There were emotions that Luna could not identify and thoughts beyond her understanding. Just like Hyperion.

"No!" Xanthos roared as he dashed forward. Was there still time to send Kronos to Mobius' core? No, there wasn't. The ninja cat realized this as the negative energy that Hyperion uprooted sank back into the soil. There was no going back for Kronos. Not now at least. He had failed. He had taken it upon himself to ensure that the Titans never be free in the world again, not until they were supposed to be. That time would arrive when Dark Gaia fractured the planet. Then, the Titans would return to their original duties, whatever they were. But now. . . now, his work had been for naught.

A thunderous roar bellowed from the right, and Xanthos halted his charge as he turned to see Sonic Cody unsheath his blade and attempt to strike down the Titans. The silver-maned lion, Kronos, lifted up a hand and chuckled to himself. A millisecond later, a pulse of some archaic force pushed past the Mobians, who were unprepared for the attack. Xanthos gasped as the shuriken he held in his hand rusted and corroded into dust. The ninja's eyes widened as the remains of the weapon was picked up by the wind and carried away into the skies. All in the space of mere seconds.

"Such power. . ." Xanthos murmured to himself, taking a cautious step back. He would have to attack from a distance, if that was even possible. Sonic Cody slammed hard into the rocks and shrapnel the lay near the ninja cat, who helped the crimson hedgehog stand. This fight wouldn't be easy. Sonic Cody gritted his teeth as he came to the same realization, though more reluctant to admit it.

<What do we do, guys?> Luna's telepathy echoed through their minds as she clenched her fists. These monsters. . . no, these demons had to be stopped. She turned to Xanthos, understanding his fright from before. But she wouldn't let that deter her.

<I'm going in. You guys make a plan.> Luna thought as she dove forward, ice forming around her fists as she approached the Titans. She swung her fists at Kronos first, only for him to grab her arm at the last possible moment before it hit his face. The lion's emotionless eyes pierced her very soul as he threw her aside, apparently disgusted by her presence.

The cyan hedgehog had other plans, however, as she spun in midair, landing on her feet lightly. She crystallized the water vapor around her into shards of ice and launched them at the Titans, who seemed unfazed by the attack. Hyperion reacted slowly, lifting a hand of blinding light at his attacker. The heat given off by the light evaporated the ice shards and engulfed Luna. Or so the Titans thought. Taken surprise by the attack, Luna had barely managed to make a mirror of ice, reflecting the laser into a large dying tree. She sighed softly, catching her breath. She wouldn't give up yet.

oOo oOo oOo

"We have to be close now!" Wrave chuckled as he felt shifts in the wind. He increased his pace, adrenaline running through his veins.

"Wait!" Omicron cried out as he sensed a nearby presence. As Wrave halted his run, Omicron let off Pennatus and began to scan the area in all known spectrums of light.

"What'd you find, porky?" Wrave murmured as he glanced around the room, checking the voice of the wind around him. It was faint, almost minute, but he felt a change in the air. It was almost unnoticeable. Almost. He located the source of the strange shift and fired a blast of air at it, whick punched through walls of dirt and rock. Wrave quickly heard a crunch of metal follow. Followed by Pennatus and Omicron, he approached the hole, senses alert.

Lasers roared out of the hole, puncturing Omicron's chestplate and nearly singing Pennatus' fur. The robot porcupine groaned and took a knee as his body began to repair itself. The wires slowly sewed themselves back together, a long and grueling task that would consume quite a bit of time. He couldn't stop what would happen next.

A sleek, curvacious cyborg feline revealed herself from the hole, inciting Wrave to give out a low wolf-whistle. Pennatus elbowed him and clicked her beak in worry. She couldn't let Omicron take part in this.

"Wrave. . . Boost wasn't on break. . . She was following us this whole time," Pennatus muttered as she braced herself.

"This . . . is that person you were talking about? But she's ho-" Wrave started, but the falcon girl cut him off with a sharp click.

"Looks are deceiving. She was based on several creatures of myth that would seduce their prey and. . . take care of them." Pennatus replied as she narrowed her eyes.

". . . . . Right." Wrave murmured, now getting serious with his foe. He had to help his friends, so goofing off had to be kept on low.

A stand-off.

Pure quiet.

Tension.

Boost's metallic blue eyes gazed at her captives as they stood before her, defying her very will. It would be amusing to take care of them. She unsheathed her claws and smirked.

Wrave growled and formed several spheres of wind in his hand as he stood his ground. He was ready. And, for the record, this robot cat girl wasn't even all that hot anyway. He turned his head to Pennatus slightly and murmured.

"Let's go."

oOo oOo oOo

Genesis grunted as he fell onto his chest, his staff clattering to the ground several feet away. He strained to reach it, using his aerokinesis to push it towards him as well. As it reached his hands, he forcefully flipped over, watching the chaos around him. It was too much. This was all too much. To his right, he could see Xanthos and Sonic Cody were fiercely fighting the Titans, but seemed to be slowly losing. They didn't have enough power.

Genesis used his staff to support himself as he stood. To his left, he saw Luna, unconscious. Hopefully still breathing. He hobbled over to her, healing light magic swirling around his fingertips. As he placed a hand on Luna's shoulder, green energy flowed onto her body, reversing the wounds on her prone form. She groaned as she rolled onto her back, fatigue plainly visible.

"We. . . need to keep going. . ." Genesis muttered softly. Luna silently nodded as she painstakingly pushed herself away from the earth. This had to end.

Kronos yawned, blocking several more attacks with ease before backhanding Xanthos into a nearby pile of rubble. The ninja's wound had opened up once more, stopping him from getting up to rejoin the fight. Kronos slowly walked to wards the fallen ninja, his mane flowing wildly in the wind. The Titan of time grabbed the ninja by the throat and held him up high.

Luna ran into action, trying to stop the lion, but was met by a roundhouse kick to the face. Tears stung her eyes as she reeled backwards in pain. Xanthos was now limp in Kronos' grasp. Genesis tried to stand, only for his legs to give out, making him unable to move. His mind blurred and all turned black.

Hyperion had Sonic Cody on the edge, and was slowly winning the long tug-of-war between the two. He frontflipped over the crimson hedgehog and jabbed his neck, instantly knocking out Sonic Cody. A quick jab to a pressure point sent Luna to the same demise. Kronos grunted and threw Xanthos to the ground, bored of the meaningless fight. He outstretched a hand, and opened up a portal. Smirking, both he and Hyperion left the Mobians for dead in the desolate battle-field.

oOo oOo oOo

Wrave blinked as Boost began to shimmer, their battle not even begun. She glared at the defiant ones before her and swore that she would eliminate them all. With a last glare of hatred, the cyborg cat vanished.

"What. . . just happened?"

Epilogue

~~~~~
"Urgh. . ." Xanthos groaned as he pulled himself off the ground, his back battered. He glanced to his left and right, seeing his friends all knocked out, maybe dead. He grips his head in regret. He never should have brought them here. Xanthos cursed softly, standing up straight, ignoring the numerous pains across his body. He had failed. Not once, but twice. Dazzling lights sprang from the skies above, spinning around in dizzying blues and greens. Xanthos had read about these before. What were they called? Oh, right. . . An aurora borealis. . . But he wasn't anywhere near the north pole.
"Young one. . ." Xanthos looked up, hearing a voice ring out, ancient yet wise. The aurora fell to the ground, swirling around Xanthos, then spinning away, forming an elderly man. The man wore a golden tunic, his gray beard reminiscent of thunderclouds. In his hands, he held a thunderbolt, a crystalline object, shaped like a thunderbolt. He walked towards Xanthos, every step measured and precise. He held an air of authority and power.
"The Titans have begun to reawaken. . . And the world needs someone to stop them. . . You must be that hero." The man murmurs, his hand on Xanthos' forehead. "The one whose power was born of the earth shall be the one to send the Titans from whence they came. This is your prophecy, a tale the Oracle has told me. Your journey will be a difficult one. . . But do not lose heart."
"But. . . w-who are you? You speak as though you know me, but. . . I've never met you before." Xanthos said, his heart beating fast with adrenaline. His body felt like lightning was coursing through it, and Xanthos looked at the man in wonder, and his body became lightning. He had entered his first super form, Physisoma Astraph, but he had not activated it. A pair of large energized wings sprouted from his back, shaped like an eagles. They roared with power as Xanthos stretched them, adjusting to them.
"To defeat the Titans. . . you must meet with each of the Thunder Gods. Here is my gift to you. My wings, as powerful as an eagle, as true as the heart that rides the skies with them." The man says, taking a step back. His body begins to shimmer, becoming a magnificent blend of blue and green. He transforms back into the aurora, rising back into the sky. Xanthos ran forward, still unsure of what was happening. He stops, hand still reaching, but. . .
"My name. . . is Zeus. . . You must find. . . Thor next." And with that, the aurora dissipated completely, and Xanthos found himself shifted out of his super form, still confused. Xanthos looked to the sky, eyes filled with wonder. His ears twitched, hearing one of his friends groan as they regained consciousness. From the network of tunnels below, he saw Wrave, Pennatus, and Omicron run towards him. Sonic Cody, Luna, and Genesis also stood, now fully awake. They looked to the sky, now brilliant shades of red, orange, pink, and yellow. Xanthos grinned, and muttered to himself softly.
"One day. . . we'll finish them."
