~The Great Ocean, 10 years ago~

As the waves rocked and roiled, crashing and roaring in the howling hurricane winds, a lone ship can be seen, struggling to fight against the rough and turbulent waters. It was a typical research vessel, equipped with a sonar dish, various communications antennae, and several life boats as well as a docked submersible. On its side was a large, white "W" logo, burning bright as if it was made of white fire. On deck, several crewmates, both human and Pokemon, were moving quickly to make sure the rigging held. A burly sailor and his Machamp partner held fast to the lines holding the various research equipment kept on the deck, trying with all their might to hold it in place as a massive wave crashes against the ship's side. Another sailor, an athletic woman with a Hitmonlee to her right and a Sawk to her left rushes to secure the lifeboats, the pokemon and the woman moving in perfect tandem as they tie down the small boats to their respective holdings. In the captain's cabin, three men stood clustered around a map of the ocean. One, clearly the Captain of the ship, was an older man in his late 60s with salt and pepper black hair, glasses, and a thick chinstrap beard. He wore a full, blue fisherman's coat made from rough blue wool, a red turtleneck sweater, rugged overalls, and fisherman's boots that looked like they had seen their fair share of wear and tear. The other two men appeared to be of a more studious nature than the captain. One was tall, youthful, but serious and stern in demeanor, with long, red hair in comically large curls like a judge. He wore a long, white lab coat over a black suit with a red ascot, giving him a noble yet scholarly air to his presence. His companion was a shorter man, with messy blonde hair kept in a loose pony tail under an old, white pith helmet, and bright, amber eyes. He too, was clad in a long, white lab coat, but wore his over a full set of khaki cargo shorts and a button-down beige shirt, with dirty work boots adorning his feet. As the three men ponder over the map, the Captain finally speaks.

"The storm seems to be getting worse, but this ship has seen far uglier maelstroms in my youth. Tell me, Professor Larch, just how are we going to know when we've found the entrance to this place? We've been searching for days now, and there's been no sign of anything on sonar..."

The blonde haired man speaks up, nodding to himself. "Its close, Captain. I can feel it...Dr. Valentine and I have spent nearly five years searching for the entrance to the Lost Region, and I won't stop until we find it!"

The red haired man places a hand on his chin as he muses, compiling the data in his head from the journey so far. "We should be right on top of it...perhaps our sonar isn't reaching deep enough?"

Larch looks to his tall companion, his eyes sparking slightly. "That must be it! You're a genius, Dr. Valentine! Captain, can we somehow get the projection deeper?"

The Captain nods, but seems uneasy. "I have a bad feeling about this...nobody has ever used sonar that deep in these waters before. They say weird things live in the oceans, and sometimes if you poke around too much, you might find something you can't un-find..."

Dr. Valentine narrows his eyes slightly. "More superstitions, Captain? Fret not. You are with men of science, on board a vessel funded by the world's leading pharmaceutical research company. There is nothing to fear!"

Larch nods, agreeing with his fellow researcher. "Dr. Valentine is right, Captain. We should be perfectly safe. Besides, its not like we're going to anger Lugia or Kyogre all the way out here, right?~" He chuckles, trying to lighten the mood with a slight bit of humor. The Captain, however, did not seem to take to the humor, as he only gives a slight huff before going over to the ship's comm systems and picking up the microphone.

The Captain speaks clearly into the mic. "Hodge, send the sonar scanner down deeper. We need a scan of the whole floor."

The voice that answers seemed confused, almost exasperated. "THEY CAN'T BE SERIOUS! NOBODY'S EVER USED SOUND-BASED EQUIPMENT THAT DEEP! WHO KNOWS WHAT WE'LL FIND!?"

The Captain was hardly in the mood to argue. "Just do it."

With a groan the communications cut as the sonar is lowered deeper into the depths of the ocean. However, little did the vessel above realize, their attempts to map the sea floor had indeed awoken something. Blue eye, deep down in the depths of the ocean gloom, light with electricity as the current of blue sparks travels through two long strips down what appears to be a serpentine, but large frame, tipped with a flat, arrow-like head lined in two massive eyes and several, smaller pairs of tiny orbs.

A few moments pass, as Larch, Valentine, and the Captain wait patiently for word to get back to them from Hodge in Radar and Logistics. Suddenly, the communications begin ringing as the Captain answers briskly. "Report, Hodge?"

"C-CAPTAIN!" Hodge's voice was breaking with fear over the communications. "THERE'S SOMETHING OUT THERE! ITS DEFINITELY A POKEMON, BUT...ITS MASSIVE! ITS LIKE NOTHING WE'VE EVER SEEN BEFORE!"

Dr. Valentine immediately perks up, seeming surprised. "An undiscovered Pokemon?" He looks to Larch. "Hugo...could this be?..."

Larch smiles, nodding. "We've found it. That might be one of the creatures we speculated about! We should ready the-" CRAAAAAASH!!!!!!

Suddenly, the boat finds itself lurching to the side as its starboard bow suddenly explodes with a massive blast of blue, arcing energy. The large, dark shape of a serpentine Dragon-like creature can be seen trying to crawl onto the deck of the ship, but its body proving too large to achieve this. The ship dips, nearly capsizing as the creature roars, its body streaking with blue lighting and only briefly showing flashes of its large, green form.

The Captain and the two researchers immediately run for the cabin exit, taking to the rails as they look more closely at the creature. Dr. Valentine finally speaks. "Great Scott! Is that...a Dragapult?! But those aren't lightning types! What in blazes is that thing?!"

The captain pulls out a Rotom-Dex, activating it and allowing it to scan the pokemon. However, all he receives is what sounds like a raspberry from the electric-ghost Pokemon. "Whatever it is, its no known Pokemon! We have to-" Another explosion cuts off the Captain's sentence as the creature suddenly begins thrashing about while ripping the boat down by the very equipment that was so tightly secured to it! In moments, the entire boat yawns and cracks, breaking under the weight and power of the massive Pokemon as it drags the boat down into the ocean. In mere moments, all that remains of the boat were a few pieces of broken debris, and a floating, white pith helmet...

~Galar, Wyndon City, Present Day~

As the bright sun shines down on yet another beautiful day in the Galar Region, passengers begin their day of boarding the busy train to Monostoke City, as fans and Trainers alike were preparing to gather there to sign up for the Galar League Gym Challenge, to earn the right to compete in the prestigious Champion Cup! From all over the world, Trainers and Pokemon from different regions and backgrounds came with the hopes of earning fame and glory in this popular, sport-like representation of the bonds between Trainer and Pokemon in battle! However, not all Trainers were here to compete. One such Trainer, who was just boarding the train, seemed rather meek and timid. He was short, skinny, and frail-looking, with messy blonde hair that he kept back in an unruly, unkempt pony tail. His glasses hung loosely off his face, like he was constantly rushing, and he wore what looked like an old pith helmet with a massive water stain on the right side. He was carrying in one hand a large bundle of folders and papers, all while reading off one as he boarded the train. In his free hand, he carried a student's handbag containing his four pokeballs containing his Pokemon team, more research notes, his laptop, an old beat up journal, and a few Pokemon medicine kits. On the side of the handbag was a symbol of a Dinosaur Pokemon skull resting on a brush and pan, the symbol of the Galar Archaeological Research Society, a group specializing in the study of ancient Pokemon and history. As he finds his seat, the intercom activates.

"One Hour till departure for Monostoke City. Passengers, please make yourselves comfortable until we depart."

Meanwhile, a certain plane lands in Wyndon Airport, bringing tourists from Johto, Hoenn, Branwyn, Topia, and Kalos.
