Seasonal Allergies and a New Beginning?

So everytime I hop onto Geneforce and start to roleplay now, it seems like everything's kinda quiet~ Not complaining of course considering it's a good change of pace from being on OtakuWorld. That place was always so busy and its inhabitants never seem to sit still. ^^;

Anyway, I guess since the forum's are so quiet, maybe I could give us something casual to talk about? Like allergies! Weird topic of conversation I know but it always seems to pop up unexpectedly and tis the season now for allergies! But one thing that I can't seem to understand is why it always starts back up in the Fall. In the Fall the trees are changing colors and getting ready to lie dormant for the next few months while the weather turns cold. Animals forage for food and do various things to adjust to the coming Winter's bite. Insects no longer can find food so they too do various things to prepare themselves for the long winter. But why do all of our allergies flare up all of a sudden? Surely it would make more sense to have such a thing happen in the Spring when the flowers are beginning to bloom and multiply, pollen counts go up and various kinds of allergens fly through the air as they do every year.

Currently my allergies are kicking my butt. ^^; I keep feeling like I'm sick even though I know it's just my sinus's getting congested. Does anyone else get allergies like this? Perhaps they're nonexistant or worse for you? Let's start a topic of conversation you guys! ^^

I get zero allergies ouo I just turn into a big piece of ice when it's fall. Maybe you get stuff like that because of how cold it's getting again? Rather then just the pollen.

I wanna say its mainly quiet because we're waiting on the others to post replies, but I know for a fact lots of us are busy with school/work.  XD

Allergies are quite the pain, I agree.  As someone from the southwest, I can attest to saying that even though its dry as a desert out here, there is more pollen than I've ever faced before. This past September I caught something that knocked me out for a solid week. Thankfully, it wasn't something worse, but I really hope you all stay healthy this coming winter!  Always keep those cough drops/gum and tissues handy~

What do you find is the best food/drink to help you heal through sicknesses/allergies? I've heard people say "only water!" but I've also heard "soda and soup". Thoughts?

Soda's not really the best thing for when you're sick usually but the carbonation can be helpful sometimes in clearing your sinuses believe it or not. I think water and either Orange or Apple juice can help a lot in not just preventing yourself from ever getting sick, but to give your body the boost it needs to get better even faster than it would normally.

Hot food can help a lot if your sinuses are really congested too. The extra heat that's being introduced into your body actually causes it to start clearing itself! Spicy food can do it too but for the best effects in clearing your congestion, try eating Hot food with some kind of Spicy element to it. I've experienced firsthand how effective it is! ^^

For the allergy thing, I truly do not know.

But as for the sick thing, I think it absolutely depends on what you have...

Right before school, I had a bug that made me loose liquids in my body (in an undesirable way... (All I feel comfortable sharing as I fear going further would be too gross...)) , and had a very upset stomach... So I didn't really want to eat...

If it is something like that then apparently 7up and/or Gatorade is supposed to help.

How does 7up or Gatorade help with that? o.0

I can understand the Gatorade given what it's main function is for athletes (restoring the electrolytes in the body and keeping them properly hydrated throughout their athletic activities). But why 7up? That makes very little sense to me. Is there something in the soda that helps?

When ever I happen to be sick, usually orange juice helps or just soup. Though most recent times I have been sick it's some stomach flu or something so not usually able to keep anything down anyway.... so yeah =w=*goes back to hiding in my box*

For the 7up apparently the citrus acids combine with the stomach acids. This is how it is supposed to help calm down your stomach. *shrug*

That makes sense actually. Another thing you could do for an upset stomach though is actually something my grandmother taught me that helps a lot: Saltine Crackers. Just eat a few and it makes your stomach feel much better~

In case anyone was wondering why I talk science a lot....I was a Science Major in High School. I think I had....6 more science credits than I really needed to graduate? I really wish I'd taken AP Chemistry though! The teacher for it was really cool and I'd had him for normal Chemistry. ^^

Really? My step dad seems to like giving ginger ale to make stomachs better, I just barf =w= it always works and I don't have to take something nasty. What I hate the most though is headaches, those I can never solve so I just sleep them off.

Headaches are annoying little flies to swat away sometimes I agree. o3o

They can be caused by a number of different things ranging from hunger to extended exposure to loud noises. Sleep is good most of the time though! It helps your body recover more quickly by allowing it shut down most of your senses in return for focusing more effort into preparing your body for the next day of activity~

I love ginger ale though! I don't quite understand why it would make you barf though Skitten but I suppose that everyone's body is different in some way, shape or form. I love ginger ale mostly because I like the taste! ^^

Come to think of it, if I could combine some beer with ginger ale it might actually taste pretty good....

o-o I wasn't saying the ginger ale would make that happen, I just say it's the best way to make me feel better in the end. Though i don't like ginger ale anyway so yeah =w= I just drink water and sleep, maybe take medicine if I have a headache since they just tend to happen at random for me.

I guess that both Ginger Ale and Beer are as my mother says; an acquired taste. I actually don't mind the taste of either drink but most of my family hates them. So usually when I get a two liter of Vernor's or something I have it all to myself~ \^^/ Yummy!

I just hide food I want to keep for myself from my family =w= Especially if it's the last of something I hide it, though beer just tastes like burning to me o-o Maybe it's just the stuff my step dad gets but it just tastes kinda like burning...

You might actually not be tasting beer to be completely honest. Vodka burns like what you're describing so that might be it. I remember when I tasted that for the first time! My uncle got me to taste it once while we were camping. The guy gave me a straight 3 1/2 shots worth of raw Vodka in a cup. oAo

It burnt like hell going down lemme tell ya! Making me cough really badly. My mom thought it was impressive that I didn't puke when I drank it all. All I did was cough. Everyone sitting around the fire pit couldn't stop laughing at my reaction to it though. Looking back on it now, it's actually pretty funny to me now too haha~ ^^

I am certain it's beer =w= I'm not talking normal beer though, my step dad is a beer snob. He has some pretty fancy and expensive beers, that are supposed to be dry? Something, not sure though exactly.

I don't know why that's so impressive but it sure was funny! I remember my exact words that I said after it went down my throat too: Holy shit. (inbetween coughs of course) My chest was really warm for like two hours after that too. It felt so weird! xD

That does sound interesting to have a dry tasting beer. I actually intend to try lots of different things when I turn 21 in January. Scientific curiosity makes me wonder what kind of drunk I'd be....

From the stories I have heard from my parents of being drunk, I plan to never have that happen. Seriously, does not sound worth the pain in the end results =w= I don't even know where I will be for my 21 birthday though, kinda crazy what I plan on doing after graduating soon ^^;

I know! You told me about that! Joining the Air Force doesn't really seem like something I'd ever see you doing being completely honest but if it's what you really want to do I'll support your decision~ I'm your friend after all. I've got your back~ ^^

And with the whole drunk thing it'd really just be to satisfy my own curiosity about how I would react and to find my own drinking limits. My cousin's an animal! The dude can down six beers and like eight jello shots before he'll have to stop. o.0

I've actually ended up changing plans to navy instead ^^; for purposes of what job I wanted to get. How come you can't see me doing that though?

o-o oh, I don't think I ever want to try and see limits such as that in myself. Mostly cause I can never see myself drinking that much.

Truth be told, my cousin has a mother and father who have pretty high drinking limits so it only really makes sense that they can pack it away like that.

As for the whole army thing, I just don't see you as the aggressive type. You've always been so timid and shy. I remember when the two of us first met too! Looking back on it now, I can't believe you used to hiss at me. o-o

I forgot what happened when we first met o-o something about hugs? I don't remember too well, mostly just hissing at you and trying to murder you.... I am doing it for that reason as well though. ouo I could scare people with how tough I am.

You're a kitten though! I think people'd be more inclined to hug you more than be afraid of you! ^^;

Well I don't mind if people hug me or are around me, if I want to be scary there is usually a reason for it.
